Dizzle Dats
Care and Maintenance
WEATHER PROTECTION
Snow or Rain

For temporary protection, a plastic bag can be placed over the top with the open end tucked under the base or clip it closed with a clothespin.

Summer Sun

The sun can badly fade your outfits in a very short time. Since you’re buying the best outfits when you buy from Dizzle Dats, you want them to stay looking their very best. One can or bottle of this High Tech Fabric Guard will cover an average of 4 outfits. This spray is easy to use, will repel water and stains, and protects your outfits from UV rays. Contact us for price and availability.

Wind

To prevent hats from blowing across your yard, tie 2 safety pins to the ends of a piece of strong string or clear fishing line. Secure one pin into the back of the hat and the other in the back at the neck of the garment. If the hat does blow off, it will stay with the garment.

STATUE SECURITY
To protect your Statue from vandals can be as simple as wrapping a bicycle chain around the base of your Statue and locking it to a solid object or stake in the ground.

One of our customers planted their Goose in wet concrete when redoing their porch and sidewalk thereby making their Goose a permanent fixture.

The same results, without pouring a porch, can be done by putting Mortar Patch under the base. This can be made more temporary by using an adhesive such as silicon caulking or Household Goop. The base can later be removed by sawing through the adhesive with a long knife or saw.

A third method is to drill 4 holes into the porch and insert bolts into the holes. Make a 2 to 4 inch thick concrete pedestal for the Goose with holes for the bolts. When the concrete starts to set, put the Goose on top so that it becomes attached to the concrete pedestal. Finish by setting the pedestal on the bolts and tightening nuts onto the bolts.

ANIMAL DAMAGE TO OUTFITS
Birds or squirrels picking at your outfit?

Some of our customers have reported problems with birds and squirrels using the outfits to make their nests. While this does makes bright and colorful nests in your trees, it may leave your statue looking ‘picked on’. These suggestions may also work for those of you who have dogs, cats or other critters that ‘bother’ your concrete statues. We have several suggested remedies.

One is spraying the outfit with PineSol , a vinegar solution, or pet repellent available in pet stores. These chemicals may work on some fabrics with stable dyes but is not recommend for all. Always Test Your Fabric.

Another remedy is to give the birds and squirrels what they need. Leave a basket of cotton, shredded newspaper, pieces of fabric, string or dryer lint near where they frequent and they may leave your precious outfits alone.

A third method is using moth balls around the base of the statue or inside your outfit. This may also help with spider problems.

LAUNDRY HINTS FROM GRANDMA GOOSE
To keep your Fowl fashions and Bear designs looking as good as new:
1. Wash the garments by hand.
2. Use shampoo instead of laundry detergent because it’s gentler.
3. Lay out to dry - never use a clothes dryer.
4. Use a damp rag to wipe off wicker, vinyl, and plastic pieces.
5. Always buy good quality garments.

STATUE DAMAGE
Preventing Damage

Never slide your statue if it is setting on a hard surface such as concrete. Rubbing concrete against concrete may cause the edges of the base to chip.

Watch the base of your statues. When placing your Goose or Bear in the garden where it is damp or on concrete where water stands for a long time, we recommend that you set your statue’s base on a flagstone or garden paver to prevent winter freezes from cracking the base. If your statue normally sits on a dry surface such as dry concrete or wood, it should never crack.

Repairing Damage

Broken beaks can be repaired to where they can be nearly invisible by using Concrete Gray Mortar Patch (available at Home Improvement Centers). Spread it on both pieces and align the parts as perfectly as possible. Clamp the 2 parts together using a rubber band. After letting it dry for a day or two, sand the excess patch material down to the beak with 60 grit sandpaper. After a few days the gray colors should be nearly identical.

Other breaks can also be repaired using this same method. If the head has been broken off and you don’t wish to repair it, bring it to us at a show. We are collecting them to use as mannequins for displaying Goose wigs.

PLASTIC GOOSE CARE
Plastic Geese are usually intended for inside use. Though they will work outside they may not be as durable as concrete. If used outside, be sure to weight them down to prevent them from flying away in the wind.

Plastic Geese can be weighted by adding sand or kitty litter through the hole in the bottom. Be sure to plug both holes with a cork, tape or rubber plug before turning the Goose over.
